Big fire at railway station kills five

It is reported that the fire started at 4pm. A few minutes later, eight fire-engines were sent to the scene. However, the fire quickly spread to a carriage containing chemicals so more fire-engines were mobilised. The fire was stamped out at around 7.15pm.

The General Director of the Railways Transportation Company, Bui Tuan Phuong, said that there are at least five dead and five others are being treated at the National Burn Hospital.

“Of the five dead, one was a (Giap Bat) station employee and four were porters. We are calculating damages caused by the fire,” Phuong said.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
